People have scars in all sort of unexpected places, like secret road maps of they’re personal histories; diagrams of they’re old wounds. Most of our wounds heal leaving nothing behind but a scar, but some of them don’t. Some wounds we carry with us everywhere, and though the cut’s long gone, the pain still lingers.

The length of your recovery is determined by the extent of your injuries. And it’s not always successful. No matter how hard we work at it. Some wounds might never fully heal. You might have to adjust to a whole new way of living.

What do you do when the infection hits you, when it takes over? Do you do what you’re supposed to and take your medicine, or do you learn to live with that thing and hope that some day it goes away? Or do you just give up entirely and let it kill you?
